Contents The purpose of this essay is to examine the subject of rape and sexual assault from an artistic perspectve. More specifically, it will examine how performance artists address the subject, and how the same artists have utilised the body of the Artist in live artworks. This will be done with a view to answereing the question as to whether performance is a more immediate and effective way of addressing an audience, and ultimately, a more effective way of addressing wder societal problems.
